Traveller’s Beach Hotel & Spa

Travelers beach resort

A honeymoon experience is one of those rare moments in life where everything slows down, and love takes centre stage. For us, going to Traveller’s Beach Hotel and Spa in Mombasa was the beginning of our forever story.

After our wedding, we had manifested this very getaway. We talked about it, pictured it, and held onto the vision of escaping to the Kenyan Coast and sharing that golden moment as newlyweds.

We imagined soft, white sands, gentle waves, tropical breezes, and a space where time slowed just enough for us to soak in every detail, every laugh, every glance, and every shared sip of something cold under the sunset.

Before we made any decision, we spent months, weeks, days, and hours imagining what our honeymoon would be like. Would we start our mornings walking hand in hand on the beach? Or could we spend late afternoons in a sparkling pool, cocktails in hand, while the distant soundwaves played in the background?

We wanted romance, adventure, and little unexpected delights that would turn ordinary moments into lasting memories, and of course, we wanted it all to feel effortless without worrying about logistics and schedules.

That is when Adequate Safaris, one of the best tour companies in Mombasa, came into the picture. We’ve been following online for quite some time now, and we have been pleased with the good work they do, ensuring travellers get the best experience.

In addition, their expertise, attention to detail, and understanding of what makes a honeymoon feel special.

That vague dream we have been manifesting suddenly started to take shape, transforming into something tangible, a getaway that promised both luxury and intimacy, adventure and relaxation.

In this piece, I will take you through our honeymoon experience while sharing every special moment, activity, and memory that made it unforgettable.

Booking Process

Planning a honeymoon getaway can be overwhelming. You may have so many hotel options, so many details to consider, etc. Luckily, booking our stay at Travellers Beach Hotel and Spa with Adequate Safaris made the process easy, stress-free, and even more exciting.

Adequate Safaris guided us through every step ensuring that our preferences, timelines, and special requests were all taken fully into consideration.

Our first step was choosing a package among the many Mombasa holiday packages they were offering.

Some of them were:

As we explored other options, our best option was the first one,  5-day flying holiday deals, and that’s when we settled for our hotel, Travellers Beach Hotel and Spa. The Adequate Safaris team went ahead and provided detailed descriptions, photos, and insider tips, helping us choose the perfect space for a romantic honeymoon.

Next came the fun part, which was a very big challenge for us was made simple when it came to customising our experiences. We wanted our honeymoon to feel personal, and so Adequate Safaris helped us plan activities, dining, and little surprises like a private sunset walk and spa treatments.

Finally, we made our payment, which was straightforward and secure. Adequate Safaris ensured we received all the necessary details in advance, including arrival instructions, hotel contacts, and a rundown of the activities that were planned out for us.

The Journey

The journey itself felt like the first page of our honeymoon story. Adequate Safaris gave us two options, either to travel by air or by road via the SGR, and we chose the flight option for our honeymoon.

We left Nairobi very early in the morning, full of excitement as we watched Nairobi City shrink below us. Within an hour, we were already descending towards the Kenyan Coast, greeted by the warm sunshine and the hint of salty ocean breeze through the window.

There was just that special thrill during the first moments of the trip,  the kind that makes you lean on your partner’s shoulder and just smile, knowing that the best part together is still ahead.

However, not everyone chooses to travel the same way, and that is what makes the journey even more interesting.

For newlyweds who consider enjoying Kenya’s countryside together, the SGR option is always the best.

The SGR journey is always about 4 to 6 hours, depending on the train and stops, and it is always an experience in itself, especially if you deeply enjoy the rhythm of the railway.

However, there are always a few classes to choose from when travelling:

  • Economy class, which is usually Ksh. 1,500 oneway
  • First class for more space costs Ksh. 4,500

When travelling via SGR from Nairobi to Mombasa, always note that the SGR departs from Nairobi’s SGR Terminus in Syokimau and arrives at the Mombasa Terminus, from where you can easily connect to Traveller’s Beach Hotel and Spa with a pre-arranged pick up.

Best Things To Do During Your Honeymoon Getaway

“What if honeymoon getaways were not only about ticking off activities off your bucket list but letting moments find you?” I thought.

Travellers Beach Hotel & Spa is the kind of place where experiences demand your attention, and here are some of the most memorable experiences we experienced during our stay.

1. Visited Fort Jesus

On this honeymoon getaway, we decided to tell our story differently. Most couples always start with beach activities, but we decided to start with visiting Fort Jesus, which is just 6 miles away from our hotel.

Our idea was that before fully sinking into relaxation, we wanted to first understand the soul of Mombasa, and Fort Jesus offered the perfect introduction.

Fort Jesus

As we walked inside, we were immediately taken back in time. Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese, Fort Jesus stands out as a reminder of centuries of trade, conflict and cultural exchange along the Swahili.

As we got deeper inside Fort Jesus, we felt a deep sense of perspective. It was humbling to realise how many lives, journeys and histories had passed through this very place long before we arrived for our own new beginning.

This experience of exploring Fort Jesus taught us one thing that every journey, including marriage, is built on layers of stories, resilience and shared experience.

2. Visited the Old Town, Mombasa

After visiting Fort Jesus, one cannot go back to their hotel without visiting the Old Town as well which is just a short walk from Fort Jesus.

Walking through the Old Town with my Partner holding hands, it felt like stepping into a living Museum. A museum that still breathes, moves and smiles back at you.

With our guide giving us stories about each corner of the Old Town, it made it feel intimate, colourful and deeply cultural which made us appreciate this honeymoon getaway even more.

3. Visited Haller Park

After soaking ourselves in the history of Mombasa, it was now time for a change and that is when with the guidance of Adequate Safaris, they took us to Haller Park.

Haller Park is a stunning nature sanctuary that blends nature, adventure and wildlife.

We started our tour feeding giraffes together, another highlight of our honeymoon. It was the kind of experience that I could not stop smiling, and it was even more special because we were sharing it together.

Haller Park

Later, we visited a small crocodile sanctuary where we learnt more about conservation efforts in the park, including its history.

We also took walks along the trails as we appreciated God’s creation, took photos of each other as we reminded ourselves about how far we’ve come and how far we are going.

For anyone planning for a romantic honeymoon getaway like we did, it is a reminder that the best adventures sometimes happen when you step away from the usual.

4. Beach Romantic Walk at Nyali Beach

After exploring Haller Park, we were returned to the hotel by our driver, ready to have an amazing evening with the love of my life. Our first romantic beach walk as a married couple.

The beach walk for us was not just about enjoying the views, it was more of a connection. We walked slowly as he held my hand firmly, afraid that the beach water would carry me away. I smiled as I told myself how beautiful it is to be loved.

We talked, laughed, and swam on the beach as we discovered different kinds of fish like starfish and at sunset, we sat down together as I leaned on his shoulder and enjoyed the sunset. It was so beautiful.

5. Relaxing at the pool

One afternoon, we spent some time in one of the pools at the hotel.

Travellers Beach Hotel & Spa is blessed with several pools in its compound. Some of them are lively with music, making the vibe there, while others are in quieter places.

We wanted a pool for ourselves, so we went for a quieter one below a palm tree with a cool breeze. As we sipped cold cocktails, we leaned against the wall, and we enjoyed our time together. Once we finished, the hotel staff added more, ensuring we enjoyed ourselves and we were comfortable.

6. Romantic Dinner Experience

Out of the ordinary dinners, Adequate Safaris had coordinated with the hotel and organised a special dinner honeymoon setup and to be honest, we felt special. Our table had soft linens, flickering candle lights and amazing views of the Indian Ocean.

This time round we decided to try seafood like Prawns, Calamari and Oyster. For sure, there’s always a first time for everything, and this was the time. We loved it.

What made the dining experience more memorable, the staff, from a distance, came singing and dancing towards our table while carrying a beautiful cake, written on top “Congratulations”. We were so happy. I even cried tears of joy that were uncontrollable.

Such moments reminded us why we manifested such a kind of honeymoon in the first place.

7. Couple’s Spa Experience

Stepping into the spa felt like we were entering another world, and soft music flowed quietly, creating a calm environment around us.

We were led to our private room, each with two different massage tables, but connected by the feeling of a shared space.

Here, we discovered the healing powers of water through hydrotherapy treatment, which made us relax our souls and minds.

8. Water Sports

Here I almost lost it due to anxiety, but with the support of my significant other, it became easy and interesting.

We got a chance to try different water sports like Kayaking, jet skiing and paddleboarding.

During the experience, we shouted and laughed like nothing else mattered but that moment. It was a perfect combination of thrill and connection.

Conclusion

As our trip came to an end, we realised that our honeymoon was more than just a trip, but instead it was a collection of memories that would last forever in our marriage. Every experience we lived was worth it. Thanks to both Adequate Safaris & Traveller’s Beach Hotel & Spa for an amazing honeymoon getaway.
