I have been to the Masai Mara a few times before. However, nothing prepared me for this particular trip. I had started planning for the trip with Adequate Safaris early in January, aiming to travel in April and stay at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, Masai Mara. I have read several reviews online, all stating how excellent the services, amenities, and accommodation at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge were.
So, when April came, I was all set to go and have the time of my life in the wild. For me, it was simply going to be an opportunity to reset and unwind. Let me indulge you in how my visit to the Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, Masai Mara, went. Stay tuned!
Jambo Mara Safari Lodge Location
Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, Masai Mara, an eco-friendly luxury lodge, is situated within the Masai Mara National Reserve. The lodge is located on the eastern end of the reserve, approximately 11 km from the Sekenani Gate and about 1 km from the Oloolaimutia Gate, offering excellent accessibility and immersion in the wild.
To access Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, I took a flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Keekorok airstrip, which took about 45 minutes. However, if you want to access Jambo Mara Safari Lodge by road, it will take you about 4 to 5 hours to cover 225 km from Nairobi to the lodge. From the plane, I enjoyed the stunning views of the Great Rift Valley and striking savannahs from a bird’s-eye view, making my experience worth every penny. Finally, when I landed at Keekorok Airstrip, I was transferred to Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, which was about 20 km from the airstrip, where I would spend the next 3 days and 2 nights.
An even more striking aspect of Jambo Mara Safari Lodge is the fact that it is surrounded by two vital streams, which are a natural magnet for wildlife. As such, during my stay here, I was able to enjoy breathtaking views of abundant wildlife right from my private terrace, while reminiscing on the day’s adventure in the wild.
Jambo Mara Safari Lodge Accommodation
Once I got to the lodge, the staff greeted and welcomed me warmly. Right from this point, I could tell that Jambo Mara Safari Lodge would be a home away from home for me. After being welcomed with a glass of fresh juice, I was given a short briefing on a few things, such as when all meals were served, the available facilities and amenities, among other information, to make sure my stay in the lodge was comfortable and worthwhile.
After the warm welcome and briefing, I was shown to my room, which was very spacious, luxurious, and comfortable. I had booked a wooden cottage cabin for my stay at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge for a blend of comfort and luxury. The wooden cottage cabin was equipped with modern facilities and 24-hour solar-powered electricity. The cottage was simply everything you could ever dream of in the wild.
Jambo Mara Safari Lodge has 108 cottages (50 wooden cottage cabins, 55 deluxe glass cottages, 2 business suites, and 1 presidential suite.
All accommodations at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge are fitted with:

Some of my favourite facilities to use at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge included the state-of-the-art gym, the bars, and the beautifully designed swimming pool.
I also enjoyed Jambo Mara Safari Lodge’s laundry service, safety deposit boxes, and the dedicated concierge who made sure all my requests were handled.
Other facilities guests can enjoy at the lodge include the garden, billiards, table tennis, table football, boxing, darts, and short-range mountain hiking in the Masai Mara.
Business travellers staying at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge can utilize the private meeting rooms and conference facilities, which can accommodate up to 300 guests.
Experiences at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge
The best experience for me while at Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, Masai Mara, was going on private game drives early in the morning and late in the afternoon in the Mara, giving me a chance to enjoy the stunning views of abundant wildlife, including the Big Five, and awe-inspiring landscapes.
I also went for a hot air balloon safari over the Mara landscapes, which enabled me to enjoy the amazingly beautiful wildlife and greenery on the ground below from a bird’s-eye view. However, I was required to pay an extra cost for the hot air balloon safari and book in advance (either at the lodge’s reception or as part of the package).
Going on a nature walk and visiting the local Masai community was magical in every sense of the way. The nature walk gave me an opportunity to learn more about the diverse plants and animals in the Mara, making me appreciate nature even more. Also, the local village visit was a great opportunity to learn about the rich culture of the Masai people, giving me an exceptional cultural immersion opportunity.
