Valentines Day in Kenya, is a widely celebrated day, always celebrated on the 14th day of February every year, which is usually highly characterized by wearing red, surprise gifting and romantic dining.

In this piece, I will walk you through how my husband and I celebrated our valentines day in one of the luxury hotels in Kenya, the Maiyan Luxury Resort courtesy of Adequate Safaris who made it possible for us.
Over the years, my husband and I have always normalized celebrating every occasion that is important to us and truly valentines day is one of those days.
We went ahead and did our research online on the best tour company that will walk with us in making sure our valentine getaway will be worth it and that is where we decided to settle for Adequate Safaris and that was the best decision ever.

Before close of business, I received a very detailed itinerary including exactly what we wanted and so even more. We even got more excited for this getaway.
The quotation was also shared with all the inclusions and exclusions. After going through the itinerary and the quotation and understanding, we were ready to make the booking and reserve our spot for valentines.

The Journey
According to our itinerary, Adequate Safari’s professional and friendly driver was to pick us up at around 11:00 AM so that we get there by around 4:00 PM, approximately 4 hours drive which is equivalent to 214km.
By Road
There is a culture in Kenya that kenyans are African timers, meaning when they travel they have to be late. I beg to differ, we were at the pick up location 30 minutes early waiting for our departure time. The driver was even impressed with our time management skills.
Immediately, we boarded the Adequate Safaris pop-up 4*4 Land Cruisers, just the two of us. That is what a customized luxury package will get you.
However, you can also choose to self drive depending on your preference.
On the way we enjoyed scenic views of Kenya’s countryside. The closer we got nearer, the more scenic and beautiful views of Mt Kenya, the second highest peak in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro. Observing these views almost made us fall for hiking, but that was an adventure of another day. This getaway we just wanted pampering.
In 4 hours we arrived at our dream hotel.
By Air
If you decide to choose the flight option, you will travel from the Wilson Airport Nairobi to Nanyuki Airstrip which takes approximately 40 minutes from Nairobi.
Accommodation And Hospitality
Finally we were at the Maiyan Luxury Resort, Nanyuki. Maiyan is derived from the Masai community meaning “ God’s blessing” or simply “ Blessed” and for sure you will realize that immediately you step into the hotel. The blessing, harmony and excellence.
On arrival, we did not have to wait to be attended to, the staff who were very friendly and warm came to where we were, greeted us, welcomed us as they helped us take our luggage to our reserved room. We felt wanted and cared for.
We bid our driver a lovely evening ahead, as we settled in the hotel ready to experience and explore what the valentines getaway had in store for us.

We were allocated one of the best villas among the 9 villas. Upon opening the door, our king-sized bed was beautifully decorated wishing us happy valentines. Before I took the first tour a surprise by some of the staff popped a champagne to welcome us home they said. I cried for a second.
Later in the evening we dressed up nicely to go for our romantic candle-lit valentine dinner at the restaurant where we bonded, talked and laughed with the love of my life. These are the priceless moments I live for. Also, the food and the drinks were to die for leaving you craving for more.
Best Things To Do At Maiyan Luxury Resort, Nanyuki
Since we were there for 3 days and 2 nights, the remaining 2 days were supposed to be full of adventure and making memories with my significant other.
