But this year, as I was turning 35 years old, I felt the absolute need to celebrate my birthday differently while immersed in nature.

Voi Wildlife Lodge is rated among the best lodges in Kenya owing to its strategic location in Tsavo East National Park, which is a hotspot for viewing elephants, combined with stunning landscape views, a natural waterhole that allows constant viewing of animals, and a blend of luxury amenities. That being said, I could not wait to visit Voi Wildlife Lodge.

Voi Wildlife Lodge Location
Voi Wildlife Lodge is located inside Tsavo East National Park. The lodge can be easily accessed by road, air, or train, making it an ideal destination for short getaways and extended safari adventures.
By Road
The trip from Nairobi to Tsavo National Park, which is approximately 326 km, took about 4 hours. The lodge is about 5km from the main highway, which took us about 15 minutes to get there.
If you want to access Voi Wildlife Lodge from Mombasa, it will take you about 2 to 3 hours to cover the 165 km distance.
By Train
You can also access Voi Wildlife Lodge from either Mombasa or Nairobi using the Madaraka Express (SGR) train. The train will take 4-6 hours from the Nairobi SGR terminus to the Voi SGR terminus. The train takes 2 to 3 hours from the Mombasa terminus to the Voi terminus. The SGR allows travellers to enjoy the breathtaking views of diverse landscapes on the way to the destination.
By Flight
You board a domestic flight from Mombasa’s Moi International Airport or Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Tsavo East Airstrip or Voi Airstrip, before taking a short drive to the lodge. The transfer from Tsavo East Airstrip to Voi Wildlife Lodge will take about 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the airstrip used and the road conditions.
Ultimately, Voi Wildlife Lodge is a great spot to explore the wildlife and landscape in Tsavo East National Park and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness, owing to its scenic setting and easy accessibility.
Voi Wildlife Accommodation
Voi Wildlife Lodge boasts 88 luxury and large rooms, all boasting a private balcony with stunning views of the vast landscapes in the Tsavo East National Park. A large waterhole is located near the lodge’s accommodation, offering guests a chance to enjoy an exemplary wildlife viewing opportunity as the animals drink water throughout the day.
Out of the 88 rooms in the lodge, 16 of them are double rooms with a queen-size bed. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable.
The lodge also has 48 superior rooms with two double beds plus one single bed in each room. All rooms have a kitchenette with a dishwasher included.
In addition, Voi Wildlife Lodge has 24 luxury suites, which have two king beds, a sitting area, and a writing desk.

During my stay there, all meals were served in buffet style or à la carte at the main spherical restaurant. Hence, I really enjoyed the dining experience at Voi Wildlife Lodge while enjoying the awe-inspiring views of the abundant wildlife and beautiful landscapes in Tsavo East National Park. However, I learned that guests can also pre-book for bush breakfasts, sundowner meals, and picnic lunches. Bush, sundowner, and picnic meals may incur an extra cost for the guest.
I also enjoyed spending time at the lodge’s bars. Voi Wildlife Lodge has 3 bars. The main bar is located on the terrace. The second bar, which is the hyrax bar, is ideal for private functions. The third bar is the pool bar, which is strategically located near the swimming pool. The pool bar offers guests breathtaking views of the Tsavo East National Park landscapes as they enjoy their drinks. The bars are operational between 10.00 am and 6. 00 pm.

The most amazing activity for me while staying at Voi Wildlife Lodge was going on game drives in Tsavo East National Park. I went on early morning and late afternoon game drives when the animals are most active, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
Guided Nature Walks
I also enjoyed going on guided nature walks in Tsavo East National Park, giving me the chance to see the smaller animals that I could not spot while on a game drive. Additionally, the guided nature walks also allowed me to fully immerse myself in nature, while also giving me a chance to learn more about the diverse vegetation found in Tsavo East National Park.
Birdwatching
Bird lovers staying at Voi Wildlife Lodge can also enjoy birdwatching in Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo East National Park is home to over 500 bird species.
